Chemicals manufacturer Orion announced the appointment of Natalia Scherbakoff as its new chief technology officer. She replaces David Deters, who is retiring at the end of the year.
She will manage Orion’s €12.8 million investment – which includes €6.4 million in funding from the German government and European Union – to further develop and demonstrate a climate-neutral process for producing carbon black from alternative carbon sources.
Scherbakoff joins Orion from Trinseo, a specialty materials company, where she was vice president of technology and innovation.
She will be based at Orion’s main innovation hub in Cologne, Germany, and will oversee the company’s technical centres in China, South Korea and the US.
The company said she will continue to build Orion’s innovation capabilities, including leveraging the new battery innovation centre in Cologne with a range of production, testing and diagnostic equipment.
Orion makes products for a variety of batteries, including lithium-ion, zinc and lead-acid.
